The 6th Lao PDR Trade Portal’s Focal Points Meeting

5th June 2017 post by MOIC Lao

“The 6th Lao PDR Trade Portal’s Focal Points Meeting” was organized on 30th May 2017 at Mercure Hotel, Vientiane Capital by Department of Import and Export as an office of Trade Facilitation Secretariat, supported by the Second Trade Development Facility (TDF2). The meeting was chaired by Mr. Khemdeth Sihavong, Deputy Director General of Department of Import and Export, Ministry of Industry and Commerce. There were more than 50 participants as focal points for Lao PDR Trade Portal (LTP) who are representative of relevant public sectors such as finance, customs, agriculture, public work and transportation, telecommunication, and others.

The objective of this meeting was to review the implementation of plans of Lao PDR Trade Portal in the past 05 months (January – May 2017). Moreover, the meeting also discussed ways to improve data on legal documents, tariff rates, forms, import-export procedures, and others in LTP system.

As for the coordination between LTP management and LTP focal points in the past 5 months, LTP management has received a great support from focal points especially the delivery of legal documents and responding to inquiries to the website. However, internet speed at focal point’s office makes it challenging for them to deliver information timely.

At the end of the meeting, the participants agreed to keep on regular coordination. LTP management will focus to improve data on (1) Import, export and transit of goods procedures; (2) Update list of prohibited goods for import, export, and transit in Lao PDR; (3) The exchange of movements of sectors, the issuance of legal documents, publications, and articles. In addition, the LTP focal points requested that LTP management organizes LTP training for trainers on how to use LTP which will help LTP focal points to train officers in their sectors nationwide.
