The Vietnamese province of Quang Tri and the Laotian province of Savannakhet have settled on holding a workshop on the "Lao Bao - Den-sa-van joint cross-border Economic and Trade zone" in order to finalize the cross-border commercial zone project and prepare a bilateral agreement that the Laotian and Vietnamese governments can sign.

The Ministers of Industry and Trade of Vietnam (Nguyen Hong Dien) and Laos (Malayhong Kommasith) signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the growth and connection of border trade infrastructure between the two countries on January 6, 2024, during Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone's official visit to Vietnam. Both the Vietnam and Laos governments approved of this agreement.
