From April 24 to 25, 2025, Vietnam’s President Lương Cường, responded to an official invitation from Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith, embarking on a momentous State visit to Laos. The trip held special significance as President Cường’s first official international journey in his new position—a powerful indication of Vietnam’s continued respect and focus on its historic, uniquely bonded relationship with Laos.

On the afternoon of April 24, a formal and courteous welcome ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace in Vientiane. This ceremony was sponsored by the Lao People's Democratic Republic in order to accept President Lương Cường of Vietnam and his distinguished entourage. These events marked the beginning of an important state visit that was scheduled to take place.

The province of Hà Tĩnh in Vietnam and the Ministry of National Defense of Laos have reaffirmed their shared vision that the Laos–Vietnam International Port, situated within the Vũng Áng Economic Zone, will not only be a major economic asset but also a living emblem of the long-standing friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations in the 21st century.

A landmark trade agreement signed in April 2024 between the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam and its Laotian counterpart has ushered in a new era of enhanced economic cooperation. Building upon the foundation laid by the 2015 Vietnam–Laos Trade Agreement, this newly ratified pact reflects the evolving priorities and ambitions of both nations. It also addresses limitations encountered during the implementation of previous frameworks, aiming to elevate bilateral trade to unprecedented heights.
