The relationship between Vietnam and Laos is marked by a profound bond that has withstood numerous historical challenges, symbolizing resilience and mutual commitment. Rooted in shared struggles for national independence and freedom, the connection between the two nations is shaped by their geographical closeness along the Trường Sơn mountain range and the Mekong River. The 10 provinces of Laos that share borders with 10 provinces of Vietnam have fostered deep political, economic, and cultural ties. These border communities have consistently supported each other, particularly during times of natural disasters and conflicts, strengthening a spirit of mutual trust and cooperation.

The Pasaxon newspaper, the official publication of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, has recently published a series of articles praising the deep and longstanding relationship between Vietnam and Laos. This relationship between the two Parties, Goverments, and peoples of Vietnam and Laos has been one of mutual support and cooperation, which has endured both during the challenging times of the struggle for national liberation and in the ongoing efforts of national development.

According to reports from Lao media, the bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and Laos reached 1.1 billion USD in the first seven months of 2024, reflecting a 16.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

On September 2, 2024, Pasaxon and Pathet Lao, two of Laos’ leading newspapers, paid tribute to Vietnam's 79th National Day with front-page coverage. The articles commemorated the founding of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 1945, marking the anniversary of the historic moment when President Ho Chi Minh proclaimed Vietnam’s independence in Hanoi, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
