Workshop “Some notes on rules of origin and customs regulations when exporting goods to the European Union”

In order to assist Vietnamese organizations and enterprises to obtain necessary information when exporting to Europe in the context of nearly 2 months after the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement came into effect, 24/9/2020 Trade Promotion Department - Ministry of Industry and Trade organized a live and online seminar “Some notes on rules of origin and customs regulations when exporting goods to the European Union ", The seminar attracted more than 220 delegates from 150 Vietnamese exporting enterprises, industry associations and national trade promotion centers, in addition, 1,600 delegates watched and ask questions on the Facebook Fanpage of the Department of Trade Promotion.

According to statistics from the Import-Export Department - Ministry of Industry and Trade, after nearly 2 months the EVFTA Agreement officially took effect, there are now more than 7,200 sets of dossiers applying for C / O form EUR.1, licensed with a turnover of 277 million USD to 28 EU countries, focusing mainly on footwear, seafood, plastic and plastic products, coffee, textiles, bags, suitcases, vegetables, rattan products, bamboo, knitting, ... Many shipments have arrived in the EU market, cleared and got preferential treatment. However, in fact, many businesses still have problems and confusion in applying for C / O form EUR.1, particularly about the rules of origin and how to apply the correct tax rate when declaring the customs declaration.


Speaking at the seminar, the representative of the Trade Promotion Agency - Ministry of Industry and Trade said that the seminar was part of the series of activities of the Ministry of Industry and Trade to inform, support and help businesses to apply and take advantage of The EVFTA free trade agreement, the topic of this workshop, focuses on guiding businesses on rules of origin and customs procedures when exporting goods to this market.


At the seminar, the speaker from Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department presented information on customs procedures, proof of origin and conditions for applying export tax rates to get tax incentives according to EVFTA. The speaker from the Representative of the Import and Export Department - Ministry of Industry and Trade informed about origin criteria, cumulative methods as well as the origin certification procedures in EVFTA. The program has answered many interactive questions from the business community attending the seminar via the Zoom online platform or the Facebook fanpage of the Department of Trade Promotion and businesses attending the seminar directly at the hall to discuss about the matter of rules of origin as well as customs import and export procedures.


In the coming time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to implement many activities to support and create conditions for businesses to enhance their export capacity to this market.
