Vietnam - Laos trade revenue to grow steadily from 10% to 15% per year

At the meeting on October 1, Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Laos’ Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith highly appreciated the positive progress in trade cooperation between the two countries; agreed to promote bilateral trade turnover to grow by 10% -15% / year.

Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc welcomed the Laos’ Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and his spouse on his official visit to Vietnam. During the meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed the importance of the great relationship between Vietnam and Laos, highly appreciated the strong and comprehensive development of bilateral relations over the past years.

The two leaders pledged to take effective measures to raise bilateral trade by 10–15% annually, effectively implementing trade agreements, signing a memorandum of understanding on border trade infrastructure development and connectivity, and promoting tax and trade incentives.

The two Prime Ministers highlighted the importance of education–training co-operation, increasing cultural and people-to-people exchanges and implementing their labour co-operation agreement. 

On this occasion, Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Laos’ Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith share various common assessments of regional and international situations, as well as the future co-ordination between the two countries, including Việt Nam’s roles as ASEAN Chair in 2020 and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-21 term.

Following the talks, the two Prime Ministers witnessed the signing of eight co-operation agreements in the fields of economics, investment, education, finance, banking, energy and aviation. 

The two sides also took this occasion to issue a joint declaration on the strengthening of Vietnam -Laos relations of great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive co-operation.
