A crucial meeting between Mr. Le Hoai Trung, a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam's Central Committee and head of its External Relations, and his Lao counterpart, Mr. Thoongsavanh Phomvihane, occurred on April 21, 2023. During the session, both sides shared updates on their own progress and spoke about regional and global issues that both sides were interested in.

During the talks, the focus was on reviewing how the two countries have been carrying out the high-level agreements and how the two external relations committees are working together to support the international activities of their respective parties.

Among the future directions that Mr. Trung and Mr. Phomvihane have agreed upon is the need to expedite the progress of high-level agreements in order to increase the efficacy of inter-party cooperation, as well as to improve information exchange, share experiences, stay informed of regional and global shifts, and offer strategic advisory services in foreign affairs.

Vietnam and Laos presented state medals to individuals and groups from their respective external relations committees in a ceremonial gesture honoring their contributions to the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations. The delegations from both countries were present.

Thua Thien - Hue province and the Central Committees for External Relations of Vietnam and Laos co-organized a friendship exchange event called "Deepening the Bonds of Vietnam-Laos Solidarity" as part of the visit. The event encompassed a variety of activities, such as sports and cultural exchanges, professional experience sharing sessions, field research in Thua Thien - Hue, and visits to the families of former Vietnamese military experts in Laos.
Another stop on the tour was the National Cemetery on Route 9, where the group laid wreaths and burned incense in memory of the brave men and women who gave their lives protecting our nation.

The visit serves to deepen the friendship and solidarity that has always been a feature of the relationship between Vietnam and Laos, two Southeast Asian neighbors, and to affirm the strong historical links and strategic cooperation between the two countries. It also lays the groundwork for future collaboration.
