Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue Visits La Vie International Hospital in Laos

7th December 2023 post by MOIT Vietnam

In an important event during his official visit to Vientiane, Laos for the high-level tripartite summit of the National Assembly Presidents of Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam (CLV), Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese parliamentary delegation, visited La Vie International Hospital in the capital city of Vientiane on the morning of December 6.

During his visit, Chairman Hue took the time to inquire about the health and well-being of patients receiving treatment at the hospital. He acknowledged the dedication and hard work of the medical staff and praised the modern facilities and equipment of the hospital, which was established with investments from the Vietnamese expatriate community in Laos.

In discussions with the hospital staff, Chairman Hue emphasized the invaluable friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos, a legacy continuously nurtured by generations from both nations. He expressed his desire for the hospital's medical professionals to deeply embody the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh, who likened physicians to benevolent mothers, and to continue providing attentive and thorough care. This, he noted, would contribute significantly to strengthening the friendly cooperation between the two countries.

Chairman Hue also mentioned the recently amended Law on Examination and Treatment passed by the Vietnamese National Assembly, which allows private enterprises to set their prices and enhances the financial autonomy of public healthcare institutions. These are pivotal decisions aimed at developing high-tech medical centers, particularly in specialized fields such as cardiology, to play a crucial role in saving lives and caring for the health of the population.

Agreeing with the hospital's proposal to expand cooperation and linkages with domestic hospitals in Vietnam, Chairman Hue suggested that major hospitals and universities with medical and pharmaceutical faculties in Vietnam should broaden their collaboration and training with healthcare facilities abroad and directly provide medical examination and treatment to patients.

On this occasion, Chairman Hue presented gifts to the medical staff and healthcare workers of La Vie Hospital in Vientiane, acknowledging their service and dedication. La Vie International Hospital, a first-class facility licensed by the Lao Ministry of Health, is designed with a 50-bed capacity and aims to specialize in cardiology and endocrinology. The hospital, funded by Vietnamese investors in Laos, was inaugurated in November 2023 and serves both the Vietnamese community in Laos and Lao citizens seeking medical care.

The establishment and operation of La Vie Hospital are not only vital to the healthcare sector in Laos but also contribute to the economic development of the country, symbolizing the increasingly strong and cooperative relationship between Laos and Vietnam.

The leadership of La Vie Hospital expressed their hope for attention and policies from relevant authorities to encourage joint ventures and collaborations between healthcare units of the Vietnamese community in Laos and state hospitals in Vietnam. This would continuously improve professional quality. With the growing demand for medical examination, treatment, and care among the Lao population, partnerships with hospitals in Vietnam present a valuable opportunity for investors to expand healthcare facilities and services in Laos.
