Vientiane, Laos – During a high-level delegation visit to Laos for the tripartite summit of the National Assembly Presidents of Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam (CLV), Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and his delegation made a significant stop at Star Telecom on the morning of December 7.

In a detailed report to the Chairman of the National Assembly, Mr. Tran Trong Hung, General Director of Star Telecom, highlighted the company's impressive achievements over 14 years of operation. Unitel, the brand under Star Telecom, has emerged as the largest telecommunications network in Laos, contributing significantly to the nation's budget and earning high esteem with the Laotian government and people.

With a commanding market share of 57%, Unitel stands as the second-largest taxpayer in Laos and the top contributor within the telecommunications sector, contributing over 53 million USD annually to the Laotian state budget and generating employment for more than 27,000 workers. The company has been a pivotal supporter of the Laotian government in digital transformation and the establishment of e-government systems.

Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue praised the collective achievements of Star Telecom, acknowledging the company's substantial role in the economic development and social welfare of Laos. He noted the recent advancements in Vietnam's Telecommunications Law, which embraces new thinking in areas like cloud computing and other technology sectors, and encouraged Star Telecom to focus on these aspects to enhance cooperation in Laos.

The Chairman urged Star Telecom to maintain unity and solidarity among its staff, both Laotian and Vietnamese, and to care for their well-being. This approach is seen as foundational for leveraging human resources, fostering growth, and ensuring sustainable development. He emphasized the importance of aligning business operations with economic diplomacy and defense foreign relations, recognizing the company's role as a bridge in the cooperation between the National Assemblies, governments, and defense ministries of both countries.

Star Telecom's leadership and Vietnamese staff were reminded of their responsibility as cultural ambassadors and representatives of the image of "Uncle Ho's soldiers," tasked with preserving, maintaining, and developing the profound friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two parties, states, national assemblies, and peoples of Vietnam and Laos.

Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue advised the company to regularly review its business strategy to swiftly adapt to new circumstances, continuously innovate, and invest in new technologies to maintain its market-leading position. He expressed his hope for Unitel to become one of the top three telecommunications and digital service enterprises in the Laotian market in the coming years.

Agreeing with the company's proposal for the National Assembly and government to consider shifting from cash and material aid to technology project-based aid for the Laotian government and people, Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue affirmed this as a Vietnamese directive. He encouraged the company to pioneer the digital transformation in Laos, fostering connections in sectors such as agriculture, energy, transportation, and tourism, and to continue social welfare programs that contribute to the community and spread intrinsic cultural values, particularly for Vietnamese enterprises in Laos.

Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue expressed his desire for the company to actively participate with the Laotian National Assembly and relevant agencies in the field of information technology to perfect institutions and policies. He stressed the importance of healthy competition in compliance with the law, to remain worthy of its status as a leading star in the industry.
