Vietnam and Laos - significant supports and cooperation in dealing with COVID-19 pandemic

        Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phúc had a talk with the Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic about the cooperation between the two countries on COVID prevention on March 19. PM Phuc lauded the Lao Government’s efforts in preventing the disease, stressing that Vietnam is willing to support and stand side by side with the country in the combat.

         Vietnam has been also struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with the tradition of standing side by side together in any circumstance, the Vietnamese Government and people have and would strive to take measures in support of the Lao counterparts to fight the epidemic.

         The Vietnamese government and businesses have made quick and timely supported activities in the fight against the COVID – 19. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Quoc Dung on April 3 in Ha Noi capital handed over medical equipment worth over VND7 billion (US$304,000) as gifts from the Vietnamese Government and people to their Laos and counterparts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. The gifts include specialised protective clothing, medical masks, testing systems and COVID-19 test kits.

        The Vietnamese Government Office also presented boxes of medical masks to the the Lao Prime Minister's Office, while the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology granted 500 test kits worth VND250 million to the Lao counterpart.

       Two Vietnamese businesses in Laos which are Unitel and BIDV presented support in both cash and kind worth US$370,000 to representatives of the Lao Government on April 6 to help with the host country’s fight against COVID-19.

       The two leaders of Viet Nam and Lao agreed on the need to maintain bilateral cooperation in the present circumstance and consented to facilitate the flows of goods between the two countries, and work harder to maintain the growth of bilateral trade and investment by flexible measures. Vietnam and Laos would work together to overcome difficulties caused by the economic downturn resulting from the epidemic, the two leaders committed./.
