The 5th National Congress of Vietnam-Lao Friendship National Assembly, the 2023 - 2028 term took place on the morning of October 9 in Hanoi. Politburo Commissioner, Deputy Standing Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man attended and spoke at the General Assembly.

At the General Assembly, delegates listened to the 4th Vietnam-Lao Friendship Association Working Report, 2014-2023 term, and the 5th working direction, 2023-2028 term, discussions, personnel reports, the 5th Vietnam-Lao Friendship Association; trade unions to elect the Executive Committee, Examination Board of the 5th Class Association; conducting the 1st Conference of the 5th Class Executive Committee.

Speaking at the General Assembly, on behalf of the Party and State leadership of Viet Nam, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man recognized, praised and appreciated the meaningful activities and practical results achieved by the Vietnam-Lao Friendship Association between 2014 and 2023.

In which, outstanding are large-scale people's exchange activities, activities under the theme of "following the footsteps of leaders", "source", activities aimed at the younger generation of the two countries such as Vietnamese language eloquence competition, cultural understanding competition, Lao-Vietnam history, scholarship awarding scholarships to Lao students, etc. has been actively undertaken by the levels of Associations from central to local levels, making efforts over the years.

In addition, medical teams, giving free medicines, giving gifts to Laos people in need, overcoming natural consequences, etc. have been implemented by the Association of Interest. Those activities have contributed to strengthening the foundation of friendly relations, strengthening international solidarity, and deepening relations between the people of Vietnam and Laos.

The Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly wishes that the Association should continue to strengthen its foreign policy, high-level agreements of the two parties, State of Viet Nam - Laos, creative use, flexibility, appropriate models and ways of doing so; further strengthen education and propaganda among the people. especially the younger generation of the two countries about the special Vietnam - Laos relationship.

In addition, associations across the country, especially associations in border provinces, need to deepen friendly and cooperative relations between the two sides, organize more cultural exchanges, youth exchanges, training, resource development, health, information technology, environmental protection, etc.

Speaking at the General Assembly, Comrade Bovikham Vongdara, Commissioner of the Central Committee of the Lao Revolutionary People's Party, Minister of Technology and Communication, Chairman of the Lao-Vietnam Friendship Association wanted the two Associations to continue to work closely and organize many practical and effective activities; propaganda; education for the people of the two countries to have a deeper understanding of the history of friendship, solidarity, harmony, and purity between the two peoples, as a basis for future generations of the two countries to continue to preserve and thrive together, especially contributing to the special Lao-Viet Nam relationship that ceaselessly bear fruit, green, everlasting.
