In an unprecedented tripartite defense engagement, the opening ceremony of Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Border Defense Friendship Exchange was held today, December 14th, in the shared border region encompassing Kon Tum province of Vietnam, Attapeu province of Laos, and Ratanakiri province of Cambodia. The event, taking place in Ngoc Hoi district and the city of Kon Tum within Vietnam's Kon Tum province, marks a significant stride in regional cooperation.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by General Phan Van Giang, a member of the Political Bureau, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and Minister of National Defense. The Laotian contingent was headed by General Chansamone Chanyalath, a Political Bureau member, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of National Defense. Representing Cambodia was General Tea Seiha, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense.

The exchange is a comprehensive suite of activities designed to foster goodwill and enhance collaboration among the border defense forces of the three nations. Key events include a ceremonial painting and salutation at the sovereignty stele, coordinated patrols and inspections at the tri-border landmarks, joint medical exercises, and the inauguration of the Tà Ka Friendship Cultural House. Additionally, educational and community support initiatives are part of the agenda, with gifts being presented to the Bế Văn Đàn Primary School in Pờ Y commune, Ngoc Hoi district.

A highlight of the exchange is the annual ministerial meeting between the defense ministers of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, which will culminate in the signing of cooperation documents. This first-of-its-kind gathering is a practical execution of the 2023 cooperation plan agreed upon by the defense ministries of the three countries.

The success of this exchange is anticipated to significantly bolster political trust and cultivate the bonds of friendship and solidarity among the nations. It aims to propel substantial cooperation among the border defense forces and through various exchange activities, stimulate economic development and people-to-people exchanges in the border areas. The event sends a powerful message of unity, friendship, and mutual support among the governments, military forces, and people of the three nations, contributing to the vision of a peaceful, friendly, stable, cooperative, and developing Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia border region.
