On October 20, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone at the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit in Saudi Arabia.

At the meeting, the two Prime Ministers conveyed greetings from the two countries' senior leaders and expressed their delight at recent developments in bilateral cooperation.

The two countries' leaders also emphasized that the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos is an invaluable common asset of the two Parties and two peoples, a law of existence and development, a vital relationship, and an important resource. for the cause of protection and development in each country; Actively contribute to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and around the world.

The two Prime Ministers reviewed and evaluated the implementation of agreements between the Politburos of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party in order to promote stronger and more substantive cooperation.

As a result, review the achieved and unachieved results, issues that need to be promoted, or issues that can be learned from experience, in order to discuss cooperation mechanisms and implementation. The two countries agreed to work together to implement the Vietnam-Laos Strategic Cooperation Agreement for the period 2021- 2030, the Vietnam-Laos Bilateral Cooperation Agreement for the period 2021-2023, and other high-level agreements and cooperation plans signed on the ground.

Continue to strengthen delegation exchanges at all levels and channels in order to maintain special and strong political relations of trust. Enhance security and defense cooperation to ensure security, order, and social safety. Increase cooperation in preventing and combating transnational crimes, particularly drug crimes.

The two sides also agreed to increase their efforts to bring economic cooperation to a higher level of quality; to help each other build an independent, self-sufficient economy that is linked to substantive, extensive, and effective international integration. Improve the quality and effectiveness of aid projects by strengthening the link between the two economies.

The two Prime Ministers believe that Nong Khang Airport (Laos), which opened in May, will not only aid in the development of tourism, the economy, and people-to-people exchanges, but will also serve as a symbol of long-term friendly and cooperative relationships. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated Laos on assuming the role of ASEAN/AIPA 2024 Chair and stated that Vietnam is ready to assist Laos in fulfilling this role successfully. Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone reiterated Vietnam's continued close coordination and support in regional and international issues.
