Quang Tri (VNA) - The remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who sacrificed their lives in Laos during wartime were laid to rest at the Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery in the central province of Quang Tri on May 5.
The 16 sets of remains and those found in a mass grave in the Lao province of Savannakhet were repatriated in the 2019-2020 dry season by Team 584 under the Military Command of Quang Tri.
This is the 34th time Quang Tri has received, commemorated, and reburied remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts since 1993.
Speaking at the reburial ceremony, a representative from the Quang Tri provincial People’s Committee underlined that the local Party Committee, authorities and people will continue their efforts to promote development and reinforce the relationship between Vietnam and Laos.
In recent years, the local administration has cooperated with Lao localities to search for and repatriate thousands of remains of Vietnamese martyrs, contributing to easing their families’ pain and suffering./.
