Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh Calls for Stronger Business Ties and Education Initiatives in Meeting with Vietnamese Representatives in Laos
During his visit to Laos for the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits on October 8, 2024, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with staff from Vietnamese representative offices in Vientiane. At the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos, Nguyễn Minh Tâm, expressed his gratitude for the Prime Minister’s guidance and acknowledged the dedicated efforts of the embassy staff in enhancing the friendship between Vietnam and Laos. The ambassador noted that the Vietnamese community in Laos, with over 100,000 residents across 18 provinces, is actively promoting Vietnamese language learning and working to strengthen the business ties between the two nations.
The Vietnamese embassy has been actively addressing challenges faced by Vietnamese businesses operating in Laos, working as a bridge between the two countries to ensure the successful implementation of investment projects. Moving forward, the embassy will focus on making the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Laos more practical, aiming to concretize the high-level agreements made by both governments. The embassy also called for further support from the Government, Party, and related ministries to help overcome operational challenges and fulfill its mission.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized the special, sincere, and trusting relationship that Vietnam shares with Laos, stating that political ties must remain the cornerstone of bilateral relations. He highlighted the need to further enhance economic cooperation, which has not yet fully aligned with the strong political relationship. He encouraged the Vietnamese representative offices to build stronger connections with the business community, nurture and support Vietnamese entrepreneurs, and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese citizens living and working in Laos.
The Prime Minister also urged the embassy to accelerate the completion of ongoing Vietnamese investment projects in Laos and to prioritize impactful aid projects, while resolving any challenges faced. He particularly stressed the importance of education cooperation, especially in providing scholarships to Lao students, describing it as a strategic long-term priority.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reiterated the need for Vietnamese representative offices in Laos to engage with the community and foster closer collaboration within the ASEAN community. He emphasized that Vietnam’s investment projects in Laos should be implemented with a focus on achieving tangible results, and education must continue to be a key strategic priority in bilateral cooperation.
