Positive points in Vietnam-Laos trade in early 2022

The Foreign Ministers of the two countries expressed their delight at the very positive achievements and results in the strategic cooperation relationship between the two countries in all fields from economy to politics.

Political relations continue to stick and trust. The two countries exchanged many high-level visits and contacts and effectively maintained cooperation mechanisms. Defense and security cooperation continued to be strengthened.

Economic cooperation maintained a positive development momentum. In the first quarter of 2022, bilateral trade turnover reached more than 400 million USD, up nearly 20% over the same period last year. Vietnam has 1 new project and 2 adjusted capital increase projects in Laos with a total registered capital of over 64 million USD.

The two sides agreed to continue to coordinate well in serving high-level visits and contacts; Together with the ministries, branches and localities of the two countries, continue to effectively implement the high-level agreements and the results of the 44th meeting of the Vietnam - Laos Intergovernmental Committee, including the organization of well-organized activities. celebrating in the "Year of Solidarity and Friendship between Vietnam and Laos 2022".

The Foreign Ministers of the two countries also highly appreciated the cooperation results between the two ministries in the past time on the basis of the cooperation agreement between the two foreign ministries of Vietnam and Laos in the 2021-2025 period.

The Vietnam - Laos Foreign Ministers agreed to continue promoting cooperation and consultation between relevant units of the two foreign ministries as well as effectively maintaining periodic cooperation mechanisms between the two ministries.

The two sides agreed to work together to well implement the Action Program to strengthen economic diplomatic cooperation between the two foreign ministries for the period 2020-2025 and continue to coordinate in reviewing the bilateral international treaties signed by the two countries, contributing to promoting the effective implementation of these agreements.

The two ministers also exchanged and shared views on regional and international issues of mutual concern; agreed to continue working closely at multilateral forums.

The two ministers agreed to work with other ASEAN countries to maintain ASEAN's common stance on the East Sea issue, settle disputes by peaceful means, and respect international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. 1982 (UNCLOS 1982), effectively implement the DOC, move towards building a COC.
