HÀ NỘI — General Secretary of the Communist Party of Việt Nam Central Committee Nguyễn Phú Trọng hosted a reception on September 13 for Laos Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith who came to attend the World Economic Forum on ASEAN 2018 (WEF ASEAN).

The Party chief expressed his delight at the special solidarity between the two countries, which have been developing in a practical and effective manner across various sectors.

He spoke highly of the cooperation between the two governments, asking them to join hands to direct relevant ministries, agencies, localities and businesses to carry out the cooperation programmes and agreements inked.

They should work to remove bottlenecks and enhance all-around collaboration – especially in economy, trade and investment – and make meticulous preparations for the 41st meeting of the Việt Nam-Laos Inter-governmental Committee.

Furthermore, he congratulated Laos on the country’s achievements in internal and external affairs after two years of implementing the resolution adopted at the 10th Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP).

Expressing his sympathy over the losses caused by the collapse of the Sepien-Senamnoi hydropower dam in the southern province of Attapeu and the damage caused by heavy rain and flood in various localities, Party General Secretary Trọng said he believed that under the leadership of the LPRP, local residents would soon be able to stabilise their lives and recover production.

Thongloun Sisoulith complimented Việt Nam on the nation’s successful organisation of the WEF ASEAN 2018, and thanked his nation’s neighbour for its timely support for Laos in the recent time, especially the material assistance following the dam collapse earlier this year.

He agreed to coordinate with the Vietnamese Government to effectively realise all signed deals between the two parties and governments, as well as gear up for the upcoming meeting of the inter-governmental committee.
