14th June 2024 post by MOIT Vietnam

On June 14, in Hanoi, the Ministry of National Defense hosted the first national scientific seminar on the topic “Solidarity Among Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia,” led by General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and Minister of National Defense.

The seminar was chaired by General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Central Committee member, Standing Member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, and Deputy Minister of National Defense. The organizing committee received 30 papers from military leaders, experts, and domestic scholars. These papers were meticulously prepared, high-quality, and provided numerous arguments, evidence, viewpoints, evaluations, and analyses on the solidarity and friendship among Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, both historically and currently. This research will serve as the foundation for the topic’s research and compilation.

During the seminar, delegates analyzed and clarified fundamental theoretical and practical issues regarding the historical process of building and developing solidarity among Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia during the periods of 1930-1945, 1945-1954, and 1954-1975. They proposed practical solutions to enhance solidarity, maintain traditional relations among the three nations and their armed forces, and sustain a peaceful, stable, and sustainable environment in the current context.

Acknowledging the effective coordination of central committees, ministries, related agencies, and the valuable contributions of the papers and feedback, General Nguyen Tan Cuong urged the research team to incorporate as many contributions as possible. He emphasized the need for deeper and more comprehensive analysis of the historical position, role, and foundations of the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia relationship; the current state of relations among the three nations, their governments, and armed forces; and the factors impacting these relationships in the new context. Based on this analysis, he requested the proposal of feasible solutions to further strengthen and enhance solidarity and friendship among the three nations. Additionally, General Nguyen Tan Cuong instructed the leading unit to continue close coordination with relevant agencies to ensure the timely and quality implementation of subsequent research tasks.
