On the afternoon of October 17, at the Lao National Assembly House, Chairman of the Lao National Assembly Saysomphone Phomvihane officially hosted a ceremony to welcome Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the high-level delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly. Immediately after the welcome ceremony, the two National Assembly chairmen held talks.

Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man and Chairman of the National Assembly of Laos Saysomphone Phomvihane.

During the talks, Chairman Saysomphone Phomvihane warmly welcomed Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the high-level delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly on their official visit to the Lao People's Democratic Republic and attendance at the AIPA-45 General Assembly chaired by the Lao National Assembly. Chairman Phomvihane appreciated the significance of this official visit, which is Mr. Tran Thanh Man's first as Chairman of the National Assembly.

Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his joy in leading the high-level delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly on this official visit to Laos and attending the AIPA-45 General Assembly in his new role.

On this occasion, Chairman Tran Thanh Man respectfully conveyed the greetings and best wishes for health from General Secretary, President To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and other leaders of the Vietnamese Party and State to Chairman Saysomphone Phomvihane and the Lao leaders.

Chairman Tran Thanh Man thanked the Lao Party, State, and people for their sincere and meaningful support for Vietnam throughout history, especially for the assistance Laos provided to help Vietnam recover from the aftermath of Storm No. 3 (Yagi). He also shared concerns about the difficulties Laos is currently facing, including natural disasters and flooding in northern provinces.

Regarding the relations between the two countries, Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed that Vietnam will always prioritize its unique and special traditional relationship with Laos, standing shoulder to shoulder and strongly supporting Laos in its efforts to protect, build, reform, and develop.

Vietnam always cherishes the sentiments, assistance, and valuable contributions of generations of Lao leaders and people, continuously nurturing the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

The Chairman of the Lao National Assembly sincerely thanked for the invaluable gift from the Party, State, and people of Vietnam to the Party, State, and people of Laos, which is the new Lao National Assembly building—a symbol of the rare special solidarity between Laos and Vietnam.

The two National Assembly chairmen agreed that the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh, President Kaysone Phomvihane, and Prince Souphanouvong, along with generations of leaders from both Parties and States, and the people of both countries, has been forged through many challenges and is a priceless asset of both nations.

The two chairmen expressed their joy over the fruitful cooperation results between the two Parties and two countries, noting that recently the Politburos of both countries held a meeting to assess the cooperation results between the two Parties and countries over the past time, agreeing on major orientations for Vietnam-Laos cooperation in the future.

Regarding trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, the two National Assembly chairmen agreed that this relationship is still modest and not commensurate with the good political relations and cooperative potential between the two countries.

The Chairman of the Lao National Assembly stated that Vietnam is among the top countries investing in Laos, with about 241 projects at various levels and a total investment capital of approximately 5.47 billion USD. He proposed that the Vietnamese National Assembly support the enhancement of economic cooperation between the two countries, especially increasing bilateral trade turnover in the near future.

To promote cooperation between the two legislative bodies, the two National Assembly chairmen agreed that it is necessary to continue implementing activities for exchange and sharing experiences in areas of mutual interest, particularly in building and improving institutions, legal systems, supreme oversight, and deciding on important national issues.
