NDO – The Mekong Delta region has showed its leading management capacity, proven by the leading Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) among six economic regions nationwide across many consecutive years. |
The assessment was delivered at a seminar held in the delta’s province of Vinh Long on June 15. Co-organised by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) - Can Tho branch and Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee, the event looked into the business environment in the Mekong Delta via PCI 2019 results. Speaking at the conference, VCCI Vice President Vo Tan Thanh assessed that the Mekong Delta had made considerable efforts over the past few years and many of its localities have been among the provinces and cities with the nation’s leading levels of business management quality. For the past five consecutive years, the Mekong Delta has topped the PCI amongst the six economic regions nationwide with many of its sub-indicators taking the lead compared to other regions. The region's median PCI score has maintained a sustained uptrend over the recent years. During the 2015-2019 period, the regional PCI increased by 10%, equivalent to 5.95 points, from 59 points in 2015 to 64.99 points last year. Among the top 20 provinces and cites leading the national PCI rankings, the Mekong Delta currently has five, including Dong Thap, Vinh Long, Ben Tre, Long An and Can Tho. Of which, Dong Thap has continued to hold second position amongst 63 provinces and cities nationwide for three consecutive years. An Giang is the province with the highest increase in both rankings and scores in the Mekong Delta in 2019. Vinh Long is a great climber in the rankings and is now amongst the Top 5. The component indexes of the provinces in the region also improved in a more even manner, showing that progress has been made in all areas. There have been five among 13 provinces in the delta frequently making in the Top 20 of the national PCI rankings, reflecting that the Mekong Delta has a stable and sustainable operating capacity.
