On 76th National Day Ceremony of Socialist Republic of Vietnam (2/9/1945 – 2/9/2021), PathetLao Daily newspaper published an editorial on the top page titled“Congratulations on the 76th National Day of Socalist Republic of Vietnam”

According to the article, this year, Vietnam is celebrating the 76th anniversary of the National Day this year as part of a re-evaluation of the country’s 35 years on the path of innovation, which have been full of difficulties and challenges, but also full of pride and precious achievements.

Vietnam was a small colonial country 76 years ago. Following independence,  Vietnam still faced many difficulties as a result of the war’s consequences; however, under the correct leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the people’s steadfast will and determination to overcome the difficulties and hardships, Vietnam is now a developing country.

Gross domestic product (GDP) is consistently growing at an average rate of about 7%/ year; ensuring density and security, maintaining socio-political stability; culture, education and health have made significant advances; ensuring social order and safety; and expanding infrastructure and economic base. The socialist-oriented market economy is growing rapidly, with increasing contributions from the private sector and foreign investment; the business investment environment is becoming more stable, attracting more investment from society and abroad; people’s quality of life is improving; the great national unity bloc and social democracy are becoming more consolidated. In the international area, Vietnam’s position and role are becoming increasingly important.

Currently, Vietnam and other nations around the world are dealing with the outbreak of the Covid19 pandemic, which has had a devastating and widespread influence on socio and economic life. However, under the timely direction of the Party and State, as well as the cooperation and solidarity of Vietnam people, Vietnam has achieved a number of significant achievements in the prevention and control of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as in the cause of development, socio-economic development.

Vietnam’s GDP will increase at a rate of 2.91 percent In 2020, becoming the 4th largest economy in Southeast Asia. The percentage of low-income households has dropped from 58 percent in 1993 to 3 percent today. The total import-export turnover with more than 200 countries around the world was over 540 billion USD, with 280 billion USD in export value. Despite the complicated condition of the Covid-19 pandemic sweeping the country in 2021, Vietnamese people are highly conscious and determined to work, grow, and creatively adjust to new situations under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, Vietnam, in the spirit of international solidarity and collaboration, provided medical equipment, supplies and funding to 51 countries and international organisations to help them deal with the outbreak. Many countries and international organisations have contributed resources, medical supplies, and funds to help Vietnam carry out Covid-19 preventive and control efforts. Furthermore, Vietnam is the country that proposed and promoted the designation of the 27th of December as the International day for Disease Prevention and Control, which was approved by the United Nations General Assembly with 112 votes

Vietnam successfully held its 13th National Party Congress in 2021, electing deputies to the 15th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels, as well as leadership positions at all levels. The  Communist Party of Vietnam’s 13th has set out 3 major goals in the development of the country.

The special relationship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos has grown stronger over time, becoming a relationship of “great friendship”, pure loyalty, and a unique model in the world. On the basis of close brotherly relations, the two countries’ parties, states and people have shared their material and spiritual blessings. This is a valuable asset of the two parties, the two states and the two people. In all difficult circumstances, the two countries also regularly organise activities to meet and visit each other, in the spirit of friends, comrades and brothers. In the fight against the Covid19 pandemic, the two countries Vietnam and Laos have worked together to aid one another.

The two sides reaffirmed their intention of tightening and developing friendly relations during a bilateral meeting with General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith on the occasion of President Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s official friendship visit to Laos. The great conference, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos has become a strategic work, critical to survival, and a decisive role in the defense of national independence, the protection of democracy and the unification of the country, as well as the realisation of each country’s socialist construction and development goals.

The article congratulates Vietnam on its 76th anniversary of the Independence Day and wishes for the lasting friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
