12th February 2025 post by MOIT Vietnam

A pivotal business dialogue took place in the capital of Laos to enhance investment and commercial opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises in the Lao market and to explore new investment channels. A symposium titled "Investment Prospects in Laos: A Strategic Gateway for Vietnamese Businesses" was organized by the Vietnamese Business Association in Laos, Nam A Bank, the Association of Vietnamese Entrepreneurs Abroad (BAOOV), and the Embassy of Vietnam in Laos.

A diverse assembly of individuals, including the Laos-Vietnam Cooperation Committee, senior officials from various Lao ministries, and H.E. Nguyễn Minh Tâm, the Vietnamese ambassador to Laos, were prominent attendees at this distinguished event. Prominent business leaders from Vietnam, Laos, Japan, South Korea, the United States, Thailand, and Malaysia engaged in the conversation.

The Function of Economic Synergy in Strengthening Strategic Alliances
Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Tâm underscored the significance of the Vietnam-Laos partnership in his opening remarks. He indicated that the two nations possess a unique bond owing to their common history, proximity, and mutual objectives of regional integration and sustainable development. He asserts that as global interconnectedness increases, nations such as Vietnam and Laos must fully leverage their external collaborations and internal resources. This necessitates proactive involvement from enterprises domestically and internationally.

Ambassador Tâm stated that numerous high-level visits by leaders from both nations, together with a series of joint conferences, forums, and trade promotion events, have enhanced economic cooperation between the two countries in recent years. The advancements have led to stronger economic ties between the two countries, facilitating enhanced communication, information exchange, and collaborative strategic planning among public and private entities.

Vietnam remains a leading foreign investor in Laos, while Laos continues to be Vietnam's primary offshore investment destination, indicating the efficacy of these initiatives. The consistent growth of bilateral trade has significantly enhanced the economies and social structures of both nations, further solidifying their unique relationship.

A Platform for Policy Discourse and Engagement of the Business Sector
Ambassador Tâm emphasized that the forum not only aids in uncovering new business opportunities but also serves as a crucial platform for the Laotian government to communicate policy developments, investment incentives, and regulatory frameworks to the Vietnamese and international business communities.

Participating organizations acquired a profound comprehension of Laos's dynamic economy, emerging market opportunities, and competitive advantages during the event. This enabled significant government officials and corporate executives to engage in face-to-face meetings, thereby enhancing communication, understanding, and collaboration.

The forum functioned as a platform for corporations to connect with each other and government authorities, thereby enhancing the prospects for partnerships, joint ventures, and other strategies for entering new markets.

Vietnamese Investors Overseas: An Ascendant Force in Global Finance
Mr. Nguyễn Mạnh Đông, Deputy Head of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, addressed the event and commended the growing influence and participation of the Vietnamese business community overseas. This community has not only expanded in recent years but has also enhanced its capacity for innovative thinking, strategic investment, and high-level engagement, as he said.

Enterprises established by Vietnamese expatriates have been essential to Vietnam's economic development due to their extensive international networks, profound business acumen, and advanced technical expertise. They have achieved significant success in diplomacy, trade, and investment due to their passion and commitment to their nation.

Mr. Đông asserts that the untapped potential of the Laotian market in agriculture, tourism, logistics, and infrastructure presents favorable opportunities for Vietnamese firms abroad. He believes that their engagement will positively influence their respective enterprises and contribute to the economic and social growth of Vietnam and Laos.

Collaboration in Route Creation
During the debate, distinguished business leaders from several nations shared anecdotes, insights, and recommendations derived from their investment experiences in Laos. The testimonials offered valuable insights for firms seeking to enter or expand in the Lao market, and they initiated productive discussions on exploring new prospects in a dynamic region, adapting to local business culture, and surmounting regulatory challenges.

Moreover, participants had the opportunity to connect with new individuals, exchange expertise, and establish a foundation for future collaboration. Delegates reported that the session offered essential help for formulating strategies tailored to the Lao business climate, investment roadmaps, and operational plans.

Laos: A Captivating Destination in a New Epoch of Advancement
Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Tâm reiterated at the conclusion of the event that Laos is an exceptional and increasingly attractive destination for foreign enterprises, especially Vietnamese firms. He noted that while both nations have made significant progress, considerable potential exists for enhancing their trade and investment relations.

Ambassador Tâm emphasized the burgeoning opportunities in critical sectors such as agriculture, ecotourism, logistics, and infrastructure. These regions align closely with Laos' national development objectives and Vietnam's competencies in production, technology, and services.

In the context of Industry 4.0, digital transformation, and circular economy models, he commended Vietnamese enterprises for their increasing competitiveness and adaptability. Vietnamese firms are strategically positioned to capitalize on emerging investment possibilities and establish themselves as pivotal players in regional value chains due to their competencies.

He emphasized that the event was an excellent opportunity for the Lao government to engage directly with investors, solicit their insights, and enhance national policy frameworks. These contributions are essential for enhancing Laos's administrative and legal framework, so rendering the country a more appealing destination for long-term foreign investment.
