Former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan - Class Contributor To Vietnam - Laos Friendly Relations

The Former Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister of Laos Somsavat Lengsavad, who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos from 1993-2006 affirmed in an interview that Former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan had many contributions for solidarity, friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

Sharing with reporters, Mr. Somsavat Lengsavad expressed that the close relationship between the two former deputy prime ministers began when he was appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos in March 1993, at which time comrade Vu Khoan was holding the position of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam.

After many years of contact and cooperation with comrade Vu Khoan, former Deputy Prime Minister of Laos commented that in terms of expertise, he is a highly qualified leader with a rich understanding of the field of science and technology. social studies. What impressed Mr. Somsavat Lengsavad most about comrade Vu Khoan was his ability to learn foreign languages very well.

In 1992, when Vietnam and Laos jointly accepted the task of being observers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Mr. Vu Khoan, who was then holding the position of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, was an expert on Russian languages. To meet work requirements with partners in ASEAN, Mr. Vu Khoan actively participated in learning English. Although the study period was not long, he was fluently in English not only for basic communication but also for deep understanding.

In the tasks assigned by the Party and the State, Mr. Vu Khoan always proactively and actively researches and excellently completes the tasks he was in charge of.

Regarding lifestyle, former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan was praised by Mr. Somsavat as a friendly, likable person, a very good communicator, sociable and always helps his friends wholeheartedly.

Comrade Vu Khoan received admiration for his professional capacity and praise for his lifestyle not only from the former Deputy Prime Minister of Laos but also from leaders of fellow ASEAN countries who also shared the same opinion.

Regarding the contributions of former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan to the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos, Mr. Somsavat shared that comrade Vu Khoan is a person with important contributions.

In 1993, when Mr. Somsavat became Lao Foreign Minister, he asked Comrade Vu Khoan to share his experiences in the field of diplomacy. Former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan shared frankly that neither of them had gone through any professional school in the field of diplomacy. Therefore, it is necessary to proactively and actively learn and study international treaties on international relations, consular work as well as related international laws. If there is a lack of understanding of the above issues, activities in the field of diplomacy will be ineffective.

From the sharing and encouragement of comrade Vu Khoan, he has made efforts to learn and research knowledge in all fields such as politics, economics, culture, military... to work well in the diplomatic field.

Former Deputy Prime Minister of Laos shared that when comrade Vu Khoan was Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, he has made important contributions to consolidating and strengthening diplomatic relations between the two countries, including efforts to support Laos in preparation process to join ASEAN as well as cooperation in training diplomatic officers for Laos.

Closing the interview, Mr. Somsavat emphasized that comrade Vu Khoan, throughout the process of holding leadership positions of the Party and State of Vietnam, has made many great contributions to the effort to inherit, preserve and promote tradition of solidarity, brotherly friendship as well as comprehensive cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Laos.

Former Deputy Prime Minister of Laos expressed that although former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan has gone away, "we will always remember his gratitude".
