Forging Closer Bonds: Vietnam and Laos

Mr. Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune, a member of the Politburo and the Chairman of the Lao Front for National Construction’s Central Committee, met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on April 26, 2023, during his official visit to Vietnam. This meeting served as a recent demonstration of the enduring partnership between Vietnam and Laos.

Both sides were able to air their grievances in a friendly and open environment, where they wound up discussing numerous shared interests. In his warm welcome to Mr. Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh lauded the recent successful collaboration between the Lao Front for National Construction and the Central Committees of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and the Commission for Mass Mobilization of the Central Committee.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh praised the robust bilateral relations and urged the two nations to continue striving for further cooperation. He emphasised that from 2022–2027, the two fronts must work together in strict coordination to implement the cooperation agreement. The need for additional activities to promote mutual respect and understanding between the people and cultures of the two nations was another issue he spearheaded.

Additionally, that same day, in the afternoon, Vietnam's prime minister had a meeting with Mr. Indra Pradana Singawinata, the Secretary-General of the Asian Productivity Organization (APO), who was in Vietnam on business. Both heads of state welcomed each other warmly and had lengthy discussions.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his deepest gratitude to APO for the organization's invaluable assistance in a message of profound appreciation. Maintaining assistance to Vietnam in the areas of institutional development, policy refinement, and human resource cultivation was something he hoped APO and its Secretary-General would continue. He emphasized how crucial APO's advisory role was in helping Vietnam develop and implement a plan to increase worker productivity via scientific inquiry, technological advancement, and inventiveness.
