23rd August 2021 post by MOIT Vietnam

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has signed contracts for the purchase and sale of electricity with a group of hydropower investors in Laos.

EVN and Phongsubthavy Group traded electricity purchase and sale contracts for the Nam Yeuang hydropower plant cluster, as well as the Nam Mo 2, Nam Tai, Nam Sak, Nam Sao, and Nam Chao hydropower facilities.

EVN also exchanged power purchase contracts with Kong Sup Hydro Development Nam Neun 1 and Nam Neun 3 Company for Nam Non 1 Hydropower Plant.

According to EVN, the above power purchase and sale contracts continue to reflect a step forward in the two nations' friendly relationship, particularly in terms of energy cooperation.

Many hydropower projects in Laos, such as Xekaman 1 (290MW), Xekaman SanXay (32MW), and the Nam Sak hydroelectricity cluster, have exported electricity to Vietnam (265MW)...

Under the bilateral cooperation agreement between Vietnam and Laos, EVN expects to purchase 1.491 billion kWh of power from Laos. As a result, EVN has signed power purchase and sale agreements with Chaleun Sekong Energy Company Limited for the Nam Kong 2 (66MW), Nam Kong 3 (54MW), and Nam Emoun Hydropower Plants (129MW).

Phongsubthavy Group hydroelectric power stations Nam San 3A (69MW) and Nam San 3B (45MW) signed electricity purchase and sale contracts at the same time.

In the years 2021-2022, roughly 1.5 billion kWh of power is estimated to be purchased.
