Deputy Prime Minister of Laos PDR visiting and working at EVN

On July 27th 2018, Mr. Bounthong Chitmany - Member of Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Central Committee, Government General Inspector of Laos PDR led a delegation of senior leaders of Laos Government Inspectorate to visit and work with EVN in Hanoi.

Mr. Dang Cong Huan - Government Deputy General Inspector of Vietnam, representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and some other Ministries, branches and agencies of the two countries attended at the meeting.

Mr. Dinh Quang Tri – EVN’s Deputy General Director on behalf of General Director reported to high-level delegation of the Laos’ Government Inspectorate and delegates on EVN’s achievements in the past years, as well as their performance status in recent time.

Specifically, the total power scale in the entire system of Vietnam has reached over 40,000MW, ranked second in ASEAN and 30th in the world. In addition, 100% of communes and 99.98% of rural households in Vietnam gained access to electricity.

EVN is also the unit operating all power transmission and low voltage grids nationwide and performs power supply to 25 million customers.

In June 2018, for the first time ranked “international accreditation”, EVN has reached BB level with a “stable perspective”, which equals to the national credit rating.

During the working visit, Deputy Prime Minister Bounthong Chitmany (3rd from the left) and delegation of Laos Government Inspectorate also visited National Load Dispatch Center.

For the cooperation in electricity field between Vietnam and Laos, EVN has invested in the construction of medium- low voltage grid system to supply power for socio-economic development of Laos’ localities along the border of the two countries through 9 border gates.

The Group has exchanged and coordinated closely with the Electricity of Laos (EDL) to study the grid connection, develop power projects with the goal of effective energy exchange. Besides, EVN also offered scholarships to help EDL train and develop high- quality human resources in the field of electricity.

Prime Minister Bounthong Chitmany of Laos PDR highly appreciated and congratulated on the achievements made by EVN on the development progress. At the same time, he affirmed energy is one of the key co-operations between the two countries.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister Bounthong Chitmany, EVN has made practical contributions to economic development and improvement of life quality for the Vietnamese and Laos people in the border areas between the two countries. In the coming time, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed his belief that EVN and EDL would work together to overcome all difficulties and successfully achieve the goals set out in the electricity exchange co-operation.

Senior leaders of Laos Government also would like EVN to maintain effective and compassionate supports to help the Laos power sector develop more strongly and sustainably.

EVN donating VND 1 billion to support Laos people to overcome the collapse of Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy hydroelectric dam

Also at the meeting, the leaders of the EVN sent a warm sympathy and profound sharing to the high-level delegation of Laos Government Inspectorate for heavy losses and damages to people and property due to collapse of Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy Hydroelectric Dam in Attapeu Province of Southern Laos.

In order to contribute to urgently overcoming consequences of this incident, EVN donated VND 1 billion to help the affected Laos people to overcome their difficulties and stabilize their lives soon.

On behalf of the delegation, Deputy Prime Minister Bounthong Chitmany sincerely thanked EVN for timely sympathizing, encouraging and supporting Laos people.
