Cooperation and Training of High-Quality Human Resources for The Health Sector of Laos

On June 27, 2023, the Awarding Ceremony of the First Class Labor Medal awarded by the President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic took place solemnly at Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

This noble award is an encouragement, affirming the particularly important role in cooperation and training of medical human resources for Laos by Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy as well as Vietnam for the last more than half a century.

The great achievements that the staff and lecturers of Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy achieved during the period of development were highly appreciated by Comrade Sengphet Houngboungnuang, Lao Ambassador to Vietnam. The Ambassador expressed his deep gratitude for the attention of the Party and State and the help of the school in supporting Laos to train human resources for the health sector from 1969 to present. Currently, 400 Lao doctors and nurses have graduated from Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and the school is also training many Lao students to study. After undergoing training at the school, medical staff brought knowledge and experience back to Laos to actively contribute to the care and improvement of people's health.

On behalf of the school, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Tien, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Council expressed his joy and sincere thanks for the noble award that the Party, State and people of Laos have awarded to Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

During this ceremony, 16 officials and lecturers of the school who had great achievements and actively contributed to the cause of building and developing the Lao Health sector also received the Third Class Labor Medal and the Labor Medal, Friendship Medal awarded by the President and Prime Minister of Laos.

Established in 1968, Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy was trusted and assigned the task of training doctors, nurses, and medical staff for Laos one year later. From 1969 until now, the school has been entrusted with the additional task of training medical personnel for the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Republic of Mozambique and the South Korea. The school trains a variety of majors for international students, beside training the medical doctors, there are also traditional medicine, pharmacy, and nursing bachelor's degrees. The school's educational quality is constantly affirmed and improved.

In the 2022-2023 school year, Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy is training 415 international students, of which the largest number is 280 international students from Laos, Cambodia ranks second with 129 international students, 5 international students from Mozambique and 01 student from Korea.

On the same afternoon, the graduation ceremony of General Medicine major for 72 international students was also solemnly held by the school. This graduation batch has 55 General Practitioners from Laos and 17 General Practitioners from Cambodia.

Cooperation and human resource training activities in the health sector between the two countries further tighten the solidarity, special friendship and comprehensive development cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Laos.
