Conferencing on Vietnam-Laos Security Cooperation Successfully Concludes in Da Nang
On March 15, 2023, in Da Nang, the 13th Vietnam - Laos Security Cooperation Conference was co-chaired by Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang (Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security of Vietnam) and Senior Lieutenant General Kongthong Phongvichit (Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security of Laos).
Da Nang played host to the 13th Vietnam-Laos Security Cooperation Conference on March 15, 2023, and it was a resounding success. Deputy Minister of Public Security of Laos and Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, and Member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Senior Lieutenant General Kongthong Phongvichit, co-chaired the event.
Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang highlighted the strategic importance of the conference in his opening remarks. The conference was held in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of the Lao Security Forces (13/3/1963 - 13/3/2023). He emphasized the significance of the conference in determining future cooperation to ensure social and political stability, aid in nation-building and defense, and establish a peaceful, stable, and expanding ASEAN Community.
Deputy Minister Quang recognized the significance of the conference in fostering political trust and enhancing the effectiveness of national security coordination between the two nations. Once a year, the Vietnamese and Laotian militaries get together to discuss ways to fortify their alliance.
Deputy Minister Kongthong Phongvichit thanked the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security for their kind welcome and said he was looking forward to strong cooperation between the two agencies going forward. For the sake of political stability, security, and the fight against hostile and reactionary forces, he pushed for frequent exchanges and information sharing, particularly among security forces and police along the shared borders.
In March 2022, at the 12th conference in Laos, officials from both nations reviewed and acknowledged the effective implementation of the agreements signed. The officers' professional training and frequent exchange programs were praised, as was the effective security coordination that took place during the "Vietnam-Laos, Laos-Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022."
Vietnam and Laos recommitted to strengthening their security cooperation at the 13th Vietnam-Laos Security Cooperation Conference, which was held in Da Nang. As a watershed moment in the history of the bilateral relationship, the conference reaffirmed the two countries' commitment to working together to counter security threats, preserve social order, and increase the flow of information between them. In an effort to show that they are on the same page when it comes to regional and international security forums, the two groups have decided to stand together in support of Southeast Asian stability. Both countries are confronted with complicated security threats that necessitate concerted actions, making this agreement all the more important. As a show of solidarity and support, Vietnam has pledged to help Laos prepare for its 2024 ASEAN Chairmanship. The strong ties and spirit of cooperation that define the Vietnam-Laos relationship are reflected in this support.
With the signatures of Vietnamese SSG Luong Tam Quang and Lao SSG Kongthong Phongvichit on the conference minutes, the 13th Vietnam-Laos Security Cooperation Conference came to a close. In addition to symbolizing the two countries' everlasting partnership, this action launched a number of joint projects to address the changing security threats in Southeast Asia.
