Business and Investment Opportunities in Laos for Vietnamese Enterprises
The Embassy of Vietnam in Laos, in collaboration with the Overseas Vietnamese Business Association, the Vietnamese Business Association in Laos, and Nam A Bank, hosted a high-level seminar on business and investment opportunities in Laos.

The event brought together H.E. Nguyen Minh Tam, Ambassador of Vietnam to Laos, senior representatives from Lao ministries and the Laos–Vietnam Cooperation Committee, and a large number of business leaders from Vietnam, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United States, Thailand, and Malaysia.
Strengthening a Special Relationship through Economic Cooperation
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Tam highlighted that Vietnam and Laos, as close neighbors bound by a special friendship, are both advancing deep integration into the regional and global economy. Beyond each nation’s own strengths and resources, success in this integration process depends greatly on active cooperation and contributions from domestic and international businesses.
Over recent years, on the occasion of high-level visits between the two Parties and States, Vietnam and Laos have jointly organized numerous conferences and forums on economic cooperation, trade, and investment promotion. These platforms have enabled both sides to exchange experiences, share best practices, and explore measures to enhance economic cooperation for mutual growth.
As a result, Laos has become the largest overseas investment destination for Vietnam, while Vietnam remains one of the leading foreign investors in Laos. Bilateral trade has recorded consistent year-on-year growth, contributing significantly to the economic and social development of both countries and further strengthening their special relationship.
A Platform for Dialogue and Partnership
Ambassador Nguyen Minh Tam emphasized that this seminar was an important opportunity for Lao government agencies to communicate investment promotion policies and sector-specific regulations to the Vietnamese and international business community. It also served as a forum for enterprises to explore Laos—a land rich in potential and competitive advantages—as an emerging market for future investment.
Vice Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, Mr. Nguyen Manh Dong, noted that the overseas Vietnamese business community has grown rapidly in both scale and expertise. With abundant resources, high levels of technological knowledge, and extensive global networks, overseas Vietnamese entrepreneurs have made significant contributions to Vietnam’s economic achievements. He expressed confidence that the investment and trade opportunities in Laos would bring success and mutual benefits for both nations.

Laos – A Promising Destination for Future Growth
Concluding the event, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Tam reaffirmed Laos’s position as a promising destination for both Vietnamese and international investors, particularly in agriculture, tourism, logistics, and infrastructure development. He encouraged enterprises to capitalize on the opportunities brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, digital transformation, and the circular economy to enhance competitiveness in global markets.

Khammouane Province: Unlocking Local Potential
Mr. Somsaat Ounsida, Vice Governor of Khammouane Province, shared policies aimed at attracting Vietnamese and foreign enterprises to invest in the locality.
At the seminar, Mr. Somsaat Ounsida, Vice Governor of Khammouane Province, presented local policies aimed at attracting Vietnamese and foreign businesses. He praised Vietnamese enterprises for their professionalism, compliance with Lao laws, and positive contributions to local development, especially in sectors such as agriculture, livestock, mining, and gypsum production.
Khammouane will continue to create favorable conditions for long-term Vietnamese investment in promising fields such as logistics, clean energy, wind power, and agro-processing. According to the province’s five-year socio-economic development plan, priority sectors include agriculture–forestry, energy–mining, and tourism–services. Notably, eco-tourism is on the rise, with 210 identified sites—23 of which are already open to visitors—featuring limestone caves, waterfalls, historical relics, and cultural heritage attractions.
The provincial government is also implementing administrative reforms to reduce investment processing times, improve human resource connections, and expand cross-border transport infrastructure. This will strengthen Laos’s role as a regional transit hub, boosting trade and investment connectivity across Southeast Asia.
Towards Sustainable, Mutually Beneficial Development
With a stable policy environment, improving investment climate, and strong support from both central and local authorities, Laos—particularly provinces such as Xayabouly and Khammouane—offers abundant and diverse opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises. Key sectors poised for growth include agriculture, renewable energy, logistics, agro-processing, and eco-tourism.

In the context of a steadily deepening Vietnam–Laos partnership, Vietnamese businesses continue to play a pivotal role in fostering friendship, economic cooperation, and shared prosperity between the two countries.
