AIPA seeks sustainable peace
On 9/9, at the meeting of the AIPA 41 Political Committee with the theme "Parliamentary diplomacy for sustainable peace and security in ASEAN" in the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (AIPA 41), the AIPA member parliaments affirmed that they will continue to support and strengthen ASEAN's capacity to address traditional and non-traditional security challenges to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic and consensus with the increased efforts to carry out parliamentary diplomacy.
The session of the Political Committee with the theme "Parliamentary diplomacy for sustainable peace and security in ASEAN" took place online under the direction of the Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Member of the Committee Foreign Affairs of the National Assembly Bui Thanh Son. The meeting was attended by members of the AIPA Parliamentary Assembly.
Making a speech at the meeting, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Do Ba Ty - said, over the past 43 years, AIPA has been increasingly innovating, playing an important role, always supporting and accompanying ASEAN in the association process, building and developing the ASEAN Community, contributing to peace, stability, prosperity and sustainable development. In the context of many complicated developments in the world, especially in 2020 with the emergence of the Covid-19 epidemic, AIPA and ASEAN are showing close cooperation to promote cohesion and proactively adaptive development in ASEAN Community.
In addition, the AIPA member parliaments and the National Assembly of the chairman country of Vietnam discuss and exchange many contents related to the topic of parliamentary diplomacy for sustainable peace and security in ASEAN, especially traditional and non-traditional security issues; on strengthening compliance with basic international principles and laws, and commitments in ensuring regional and international peace and security.
At the meeting, delegates listened to the reports of the 9th, 10th, 11th AIPA Advisory Group Meeting (AIPA Caucus) and the report on the 30th, 34th, 36th ASEAN-AIPA Leadership Meeting during 3 years. At the same time, delegates also discussed the topic of parliamentary diplomacy for sustainable peace and security in ASEAN.
Concluding the meeting, Mr. Bui Thanh Son - Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly - emphasized that the AIPA member parliaments will try their best to promote parliamentary diplomacy and promote cooperation and coordination between countries; between the legislature and the executive in the promotion of regional peace, security and structural order to ensure transparency based on ASEAN-centered rules.
Representatives of the Parliament also affirmed that they will continue to support and strengthen ASEAN's capacity to tackle traditional and non-traditional security challenges, people-centered, especially responding to epidemics of Covid-19. Along with that, it is agreed to increase efforts to carry out parliamentary diplomacy including the exchange of effective practices by regional and international organizations and contribute to peace stabilization and shared prosper
