Vietnam plans to spend heavily in Laos and form new strategic ties

On March 21, in Vientiane, Laos, a Vietnam-Laos business seminar took place to promote the implementation of large-scale investment projects of Vietnamese enterprises in Laos and promote a number of cooperation projects. new and strategic investments in the near future.

The seminar attracted hundreds of enterprises of the two countries, including many large private corporations of Vietnam and Laos, under the chair of the Minister of Planning and Investment of Vietnam, Chairman of the Vietnam Cooperation Committee- Laos Nguyen Chi Dung and Lao Minister of Planning and Investment, Chairman of Laos-Vietnam Cooperation Committee Khamjane Vongphosy.

Speaking at the talk, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung affirmed that the event aims to grasp and implement the conclusions of the two General Secretaries of Vietnam and Laos at the meeting of the Politburo of the two countries in 2022, taking place in Hanoi. on 9/1/2022 on strengthening the promotion of great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam-Laos, Laos-Vietnam, in which the focus is on promoting effective cooperation. on the economy and connecting the two economies towards the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (September 5, 1962 - September 5, 2022) and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation. South-Laos (July 18, 1977 - July 18, 2022).

This is also an activity to carry out the tasks assigned by the Prime Ministers of Vietnam and Laos at the 44th meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee on bilateral cooperation between the two countries and at the Meeting between the Prime Ministers of Vietnam and the Prime Ministers of Laos and businesses of the two countries, taking place in Hanoi on January 10, 2022, which emphasized solutions to promote economic and trade cooperation. Trade, investment, tourism, transport infrastructure connection, telecommunications, energy, development of supply chains...

At the talk, businesses of the two countries highlighted the advantages and disadvantages of the investment process in each country, and proposed a series of recommendations and solutions for leaders and ministries, sectors and governments. local authorities of the two countries to settle and support. Noting the proposals and recommendations of businesses of the two countries, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung highly appreciated a number of large enterprises of the two countries that exchanged, discussed, proposed to sign or awarded research cooperation agreements. , investing in a number of large-scale and strategic projects in investment cooperation between the two countries in the coming time.

According to Minister Nguyen Chi Dung, in order to promote investment cooperation between the two countries in the coming time, it is necessary to implement 5 groups of solutions including:

Ensuring the maintenance of macroeconomic stability; create a stable and transparent legal corridor; building a favorable business environment, strengthening investors' confidence during project implementation in Laos.

The two sides need to have a specific mechanism for a number of key strategic projects with leverage in the economic cooperation relationship between the two countries; promoting access to and mobilizing resources from development partners to jointly participate in large cooperation projects, connecting infrastructure between the two countries.

The Lao side should focus on handling recommendations on the existence and removal of difficulties and obstacles of a number of large-scale investment projects; at the same time, consider and properly settle the legitimate rights and interests of a number of projects on an objective, rational and reasonable basis, without allowing long-term problems and loss of investment opportunities.

Together, the two countries have effectively cooperated within the framework of ASEAN, RCEP, WTO..., effectively combined with Vietnam's extensive international integration and participation in many new-generation free trade agreements. , with high incentives, goods from Laos and Vietnam can access the above-mentioned markets; and at the same time attract quality investment capital from these partners.

Concentrating resources to speed up the implementation of investment projects, ensuring on schedule and observance of the laws of the two countries; at the same time, always uphold social responsibility to the community, create jobs, protect the environment, social security with Laos and preserve the image of Vietnamese enterprises in Laos-Cambodia

Within the framework of the talk, the two sides witnessed the signing ceremony of a number of important agreements such as the agreement on cooperation in the implementation of the construction investment project of Vientiane-Vung Ang Railway between FLC Group and Petroleum Trading Lao Public Company; agreement on cooperation in investment and development of energy projects along the Vietnam-Laos border to produce electricity and transmit and sell electricity to Vietnam between T&T Group and Phongsubthavy Group.
