Discussing efforts to prevent COVID-19, UN officials pledged to provide additional assistance to ASEAN to mitigate the socio-economic impact of the pandemic, working together to promote inclusive, productivity and resilience, and implement a comprehensive block recovery framework. The UN highly appreciated the contribution of ASEAN to ensuring regional and global peace and security and noted the long-awaited contribution of Indonesia and Vietnam, representatives of ASEAN to the UN Security Council. In addition, they highlighted the UN's recognition of ASEAN's efforts to empower women and contribute to UN peacekeeping operations with the participation of women soldiers and Women officers are growing. At the meeting, the delegates approved the ASEAN-UN Action Plan for the period 2021-2025. And stressed the importance of technical assistance and interdisciplinary cooperation. The meeting called for the full implementation of the Declaration on Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC), together with the early completion of the Code of Conduct (COC) in accordance with international law and UNCLOS in 1982. that COC will serve as the basis for all maritime activities. Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Minh praised the role of the United Nations as a focal point for coordinating joint action between countries and international efforts to promote peace and development. sustainable development. On the South China Sea issue, the Deputy Minister and Minister reaffirmed the ASEAN consensus, which was confirmed at the 36th ASEAN Summit in June and the 53rd ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting in September. He stressed the need to avoid actions that could escalate tensions, avoid militarization and ensure the settlement of disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law, including UNCLOS. In 1982, at the same time, committed to the full and effective implementation of the DOC and continued efforts to achieve an effective COC in accordance with international law, including the 1982 UNCLOS. At the meeting, Vietnam also announced with the participants on preparations for the 11th ASEAN-UN Summit in November this year and promised to successfully organize this event. On Wednesday, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with UN Resident Coordinator Kamal Malhotra and Chief Representative of UN Organizations in Vietnam.
