On the sidelines of the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia, a significant tripartite meeting took place on September 5. The Prime Ministers of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia - Pham Minh Chinh, Sonexay Siphandone, and Hun Manet respectively - convened to discuss the future of their economic cooperation.

The leaders agreed to further strengthen the connectivity between their economies. This includes both hard infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, and ports, and soft infrastructure, like policies, regulations, and standards. They recognized that enhancing this connectivity is crucial for facilitating trade, promoting investment, and fostering economic growth in their countries.

The Prime Ministers also discussed the importance of strengthening their production and supply chains. By coordinating their production activities and aligning their supply chains, the three countries can enhance their manufacturing capabilities, improve the efficiency of their industries, and boost their export potential.

The leaders agreed to collaborate in exploiting the competitive advantages of their countries. They acknowledged that each country has unique strengths in terms of heritage, culture, cuisine, and tourism. By working together, they can leverage these strengths to attract more tourists and boost their economies.

A key focus of the meeting was the promotion of the ‘One Journey, Three Destinations’ tourism package. This innovative tourism concept allows tourists to visit all three countries in one trip, providing them with a diverse and enriching travel experience. The leaders agreed to work together to promote this tourism package, recognizing its potential to boost tourism in their countries.

Looking ahead, the leaders expressed their commitment to continue working together to strengthen their economic cooperation. They are confident that their efforts will lead to a brighter future for their countries and their people.
