Vietnam-Laos strengthens cooperation in natural resources and environment

In recent years, Vietnam and Laos have implemented cooperative programs and projects in the field of natural resources and environment, in particular in the management of water resources and land policies, meteorology, environment, biodiversity conservation.

On December 2, a meeting between the Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment  and the Laos’ Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of was held in Da Nang.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Vo Tuan Nhan said: At this meeting, the two sides continuously cooperate in the fields agreed by the leaders of the Party, the State and the Governments of the two countries at the meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee, as well as signed cooperation agreements between the two ministries. The two sides alsso discussed and agreed to hold the Ministerial Meeting of Vietnam and Laos on cooperation in biodiversity conservation.

In 2020, Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment proposes a number of cooperation contents such as: Enhancing the sharing of information and data on transboundary rivers between the two countries, the management of transboundary water sources, etc.

The two Ministries have agreed to propose to the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam and the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos: 100 short training scholarships on professional skills for officials of Laos’ Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to study in Vietnam.

Laos’ Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Saynakhone Inthavong affirmed that in the coming time, the two sides will effectively coordinate to implement those contents.
