Solar power contribution in industrial development

29th November 2020 post by MOIT Vietnam

Talking about available energy, Vietnam has been very successful in exploiting domestic gas, coal and hydropower reserves. Especially in hydroelectricity, which has a very high share of renewable energy, but in the future, when the available energy sources will be exploited exhausted. Vietnam will increasingly depend on imported energy sources to meet the country's energy needs. According to the revised government power system development plan No. 7, imported coal will play an important role in future power generation.

The plan is set until 2030

After the idea for Vietnam's climate change was adopted at the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21) in December 2015, the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21)

In order to minimize reliance on imported coal in the future, the government has set solar and wind power generation goals of 18 GW by 2030.

In the Low Carbon Growth Plan for Vietnam, Dak Lak Province's rooftop solar energy projects are targeted at commercial power generation with a total capacity of 237.2 MWp, helping to increase the province's industrial output volume during the same span in 2019.

According to the Dak Lak Province Department of Industry and Trade, the industrial output volume is projected at VND 2,205.5 billion in November 2020, up 10 percent from the previous month, cumulative 11 months is estimated at 15,540.5 billion, up 5, 4 percent over the same period last year, reaching 85.9 percent of the plan year.

Leaders of the Dak Lak Province Department of Industry and Trade assessed that factories in the province were working stably by November 2020, with production output of most goods, such as cassava factories, increasing compared to the previous month. For example, beer, steel, coffee, activities to increase the capacity to prepare products for the holidays, Tet holidays by the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021.

Representatives of the Dak Lak Department of Industry and Trade said that a significant number of solar rooftop projects for commercial power generation with a total capacity of 237.2 MWp have so far contributed to a increase in output value. Compared with the same time in 2019, industrial exports, while sugar factories are still suspending production because of raw materials, are scheduled to start operations at the beginning of December.

Dak Lak currently has 155 investment ventures and a registered investment in 08 CNN with a total of VND 6.094 billion of registered initial investment capital. There are 84 active projects (DA) with a land lease area of 122.76 ha; 13 projects with a land lease area of 20,726 ha are under construction; 08 projects are carrying out investment procedures covering an area of 17.19 ha; 27 projects with an area of 57.134 ha have been suspended; 23 projects have been registered for investment covering an area of 36.73 hectares. Industrial clusters have an occupancy rate of around 67 percent.

At present, Dak Lak has a 28.8MW capacity Wind Power Farm project in Tay Nguyen, invested by HBRE Wind Energy Solution Joint Stock Company. It completed 12/12 wind turbines with a capacity of 12 MW to commercially run power generation 05/12 wind turbines from September 2019, is scheduled to produce 05/12 turbines by the end of November and the remaining 2 turbines on December 20.

On 25 June 2020, for projects applying for additional planning, the Prime Minister released Document No. 795 / TTg-CN on the addition of the list of relevant wind energy projects and power grids to the Legislation. Project for revamped power production VII. With a total capacity of 657 MW, 06 wind power projects in Dak Lak province have been added to the programme.

The People's Committee of Dak Lak Province also sent, according to the Department of Industry and Trade, to the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Industry and Trade to consider supplementing the energy development programme, including 43 wind power projects with a combined capacity of 9,451 MW out of 27 proposed investors.

The province currently has 05 solar power projects with a 190 MWp capacity that will be put into commercial service before 30 June 2019. There are 02 renewable energy ventures under way. Dak Lak Province currently has 3,696 solar rooftop projects with a cumulative installed capacity of 250.5 MWp, of which 3,619 customers with an installed capacity of 237.2 MWP have signed a power purchase agreement with Dak Lak Power Utility, while 77 customers have not signed power purchase agreements due to insufficient procedures.
