5th June 2024 post by MOIT Vietnam

On the evening of June 5, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo Member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, met with Khamphan Phommathat, Politburo Member, Chairman of the Central Inspection Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Head of the Central Committee for Anti-Corruption, and State Inspector General of Laos, who was visiting Ho Chi Minh City.

Welcoming the high-ranking delegation from the Central Inspection Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the Lao State Inspectorate, Nguyen Van Nen expressed confidence that the delegation's visit to Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City, would help realize high-level agreements between the two Parties and Governments. He noted that the visit would deepen practical and effective cooperation in Vietnam-Laos relations and provide valuable opportunities to exchange and draw lessons in leadership, management, inspection, supervision, anti-corruption, and anti-negativity efforts. This, in turn, would contribute to building a cleaner, stronger, and more effective Party and political system in both countries.

Mr. Nguyen Van Nen affirmed that the Party, State, and people of Vietnam, particularly the Party Committee, authorities, and people of Ho Chi Minh City, always prioritize consolidating, preserving, and enhancing the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

Ho Chi Minh City is committed to doing its utmost to further consolidate and enhance the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos, for the benefit of the peoples of both countries, as well as for peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world. The city also focuses on deepening bilateral cooperation with Lao localities in a substantive and practical manner.

The city's leaders affirmed their desire and commitment to strengthening relations with Laos. They regularly urge and direct Party, government, and mass organizations to actively promote economic exchanges, create favorable conditions for businesses from both sides to explore investment opportunities, and facilitate trade promotion activities. This includes enabling local products to access each other's markets, promoting tourism activities, exchanging delegations, and fostering people-to-people exchanges. The city also encourages and facilitates effective, substantial cooperation among agencies and organizations and provides support for Lao officials and students studying and working in the city.

Expressing gratitude for the warm and thorough reception from Ho Chi Minh City's leaders, Khamphan Phommathat shared the outcomes of the high-level delegation from the Central Inspection Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the Lao State Inspectorate's meetings with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and relevant Vietnamese agencies.

Khamphan Phommathat noted that the meetings with the Vietnamese Prime Minister and other officials were highly successful, yielding practical results that allowed the Lao delegation to learn valuable lessons in inspection, oversight, and anti-corruption efforts.

He also expressed appreciation for Ho Chi Minh City's effective cooperation and support for Lao localities in recent years. He emphasized that the relationship between the city and Lao localities serves as a model for subnational relations within the special friendship and solidarity between Laos and Vietnam. He affirmed Laos's desire to further develop this strong relationship with Ho Chi Minh City, deepening and making it more substantial.

Mr. Khamphan Phommathat, Chairman of the Central Inspection Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Chief State Inspector of Laos, expressed his desire for Ho Chi Minh City to continue enhancing exchanges of working delegations in the future. He hopes the city will facilitate visits, work exchanges, and experience-sharing by Lao agencies, units, and localities in the fields of inspection, oversight, and the fight against corruption. This would contribute to further strengthening the special Laos-Vietnam solidarity.

During the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen and Mr. Khamphan Phommathat discussed the current situation and outcomes of their respective efforts in inspection, oversight, and anti-corruption. They also shared several policies and lessons learned regarding leadership, direction, and management in these areas over recent times.
