President Ho Chi Minh – The sun shines in Xieng Vang Village

NDO – ‘The sun shines in Xieng Vang Village’ is the latest song about Uncle Ho composed by Lao artist Douangmixay Likaya for the occasion of the 130th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh (1890 - 2020). |

Here in Xieng Vang Village in Nong Bok District, Khammouane Province, President Ho Chi Minh promoted revolutionary activities and met with the Vietnamese community during the 1928-1929 period. Located 400 km to the south of the capital city of Vientiane, the village hosts within its grounds a President Ho Chi Minh memorial site, the first of its kind in Laos. The Vietnamese community in the village donated their land for the construction of the site. Upon hearing about this, artist Douangmixay came to the village to collect documents for his song. The Lao artist is not only fluent in speaking and writing Vietnamese but he is also knowledgeable about Vietnamese culture and President Ho Chi Minh in particular. It took him six months to complete the song, with two visits to Xieng Vang and two others to locations in Thailand where President Ho lived and worked. The songwriter also met elders to learn more about the period of time when Uncle Ho promoted revolutionary activities in the locality. "Oh, a breeze comes with ... the call to move forward to gain independence ... following the bright path that Uncle Ho mapped out... ... and bring happiness to all Lao people ". Composed with a traditional Lao melody with simple lyrics, the song recalls how Uncle Ho mobilised people to take part in the revolutionary movement, inspired their patriotism and struggled for the national independence and liberation. Douangmixay completed adapting the song for orchestral performance and is working with functional agencies to present his work to the Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. He also presented sheet music of the song to Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper’s representative office in Laos. Douangmixay Likaya is one of Lao songwriters with the largest number of songs about Uncle Ho. Prominent among his songs include ‘Ho Chi Minh – The Sun Shining Forever’, ‘The Red Lotus’, and ‘Remember President Ho Chi Minh’. He reaffirmed that he would continue composing more songs about President Ho, who is always in the hearts of the Vietnamese and Lao people. Source: Nhan Dan news |
