9th December 2020 post by MOIT Vietnam

With the aim of supporting enterprises (enterprises) in the South to restore production and expand export markets, the Ministry of Industry and Trade cooperated with the People's Committee of Ca Mau province to organize a conference to connect trade in Vietnam between supplying agricultural and aquatic products with export enterprises and trade promotion organizations in the southern provinces 2020 in the online form.

The event has attracted the participation of many trade promotion centers (trade promotion), export enterprises, domestic and foreign buyers and distributors.

Enterprises increase supply-demand connection

With a scale of 50 display tables to introduce products with strengths in agricultural, aquatic and processed foods from reputable suppliers, manufacturers and exporters by the Department of Industry and Trade and Trade Promotion Center Southern trade has positively contributed to improving the efficiency of promotion for export enterprises in the end of 2020 this year. Southern export enterprises are also especially oriented to some target markets such as China, Korea, Japan, EU ...

At online sessions with trade counselors in Japan, Korea, foreign businesses have helped enterprises of both sides grasp information, purchase needs, export demand, and requirements and the demand for goods for export that Vietnamese enterprises must meet.

With over 20 Vietnamese goods enterprises in the seafood and agricultural products processing sectors of the southern provinces such as Ca Mau, Kien Giang and Dong Thap having the need to export to the Japanese market such as Minh Phu Company, Thuy Company Minh Khoa, Tien Nong Cooperative (Hau Giang Province), Diem Phuong Soursop Tea Company, AB Seafood Company ... were announced by Vietnam Trade Counselor in Japan - Mr. Ta Duc Minh - details of the requirements that Vietnamese exporting enterprises must meet in order to bring goods to the Japanese market.

With the Korean market, many seafood and agricultural enterprises in the South are also making great efforts to bring goods to the Korean market. From the Korean side, businesses also set out the need to import Vietnamese agricultural products such as bananas, coffee, tea, and processed seafood.

Focusing on increasing export efficiency for businesses through connection

According to Mr. Minh, for businesses that have never exported goods to Japan, it is very necessary to send samples to find opportunities to introduce and approach the Japanese market. In addition, when exporting to Japan, goods must have clear and detailed labels, preferably in Japanese or English (absolutely no other languages). With agricultural products originating from nature, there must be no residue of plant protection substances.

"As for seafood products, the Japanese are very fond of popular types such as shrimp, squid, octopus, tuna ... and businesses need to focus on these types will have a very high export potential. Especially, exporting enterprises need to go through Japanese trading companies already in Vietnam market and through this channel, they will penetrate the market more easily and effectively instead of doing direct export continuously "- Mr. Minh emphasized.

As for fruit products, which are a special strength of the Mekong Delta provinces to participate in exporting, Mr. Minh added, fresh fruit products exported to Japan must go through the negotiation process wich is very long about 5 years with a lot of processes. Currently, Vietnam has exported mango, litchi, dragon fruit and longan to Japan. Therefore, enterprises wishing to export fresh fruit to Japan need to update information for the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to include in the list of export goods to be negotiated.

From purchasing enterprises, domestic and foreign distributors also highly appreciate the types, designs and quality of goods of Vietnamese enterprises. But from the buying side, the purchasing enterprises also pay special attention to the issues that export enterprises must pay attention to to increase the efficiency of exporting goods. Mr. Nguyen To Kieu Trinh - Central Retail's fresh food purchasing manager (Southern region) - said: Vietnamese businesses that want to sell products to foreign distribution systems in Vietnam as well as export need to presenting the special advantages and strengths of the product. Packaging, design must be clear with emphasis on products, achieved quality standards of exported goods such as Global Gap, ISO, geographical indication, Halal ... Especially, in the context of business increasingly competitive, exporting enterprises have to calculate logistic costs so that they are reasonable to have the most competitive price.
