Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made a speech at the forum


In the afternoon of 25th August, in Hanoi, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended and made a speech at the ASEAN Business Forum 2020 that  was organized online by Standard Chartered Bank and Reuters with the topic "Exploring ASEAN potentials” at 22 online destinations and was broadcasted through international media networks.

Taking place from 25th to 27th August, the forum attracted the participation of senior leaders of businesses (DN) and organizations from Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the United States in the discussion sessions regarding emerging trends that could shape the region's future. 

With the role of ASEAN Chairman 2020, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made a speech at the opening session with the theme "Exploring growth opportunities from during and after the Covid-19 epidemic". The Prime Minister stated that the world and ASEAN are witnessing the outbreak and serious impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The ASEAN economy is facing a severe economic slowdown. A lot of people have become unemployed. The Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam always welcomes international enterprises and investors. Business investment environment in Vietnam is increasingly favorable and open. Vietnam currently has more than 32 thousand operating FDI projects with a total capital of more than 380 billion USD from 140 countries and partners. 

From this forum towards the ASEAN Vision to 2025 and 2030, the Prime Minister shares strong decisions on ASEAN economic cooperation. Firstly, ASEAN countries continue uniting, unifying, maintaining stability, affirming and promoting ASEAN's central role in regional economic cooperation and prioritizing cooperation with international partners and businesses. Secondly, ASEAN upholds the law, sets up stable and sustainable cooperation frameworks, especially for the development of the digital economy. Thirdly, ASEAN is trying to invest in infrastructure, including hard infrastructure (roads, airports, energy, ...) and soft infrastructure (law, administrative reform, ...), in which improve the quality of human resources. Fourthly, ASEAN strives to narrow the development gap, consider people-centered and community benefits as the basis. Finally, ASEAN attaches great importance to the companionship between enterprises and the Government.
