Laos encourages large-scale livestock exports and economic prospects for Vietnamese companies.

3rd May 2021 post by MOIT Vietnam

Laos' livestock output is one of the country's top 20 exports. The current largest export markets of Laos are China, Thailand and Vietnam. Laos' huge cattle export turnover in 2020 has reached US$7.5 million, mainly for the Chinese market. China has established a quota of 500,000 cattle from Laos per year.

Meanwhile, Vietnam need between 300,000 and 400,000 buffaloes and cows from outside sources, but Laos is unable to supply this demand at the moment.

The Lao cattle business, which has great land potential, is likely to expand in the near future provided additional resources are committed. Laos is encouraging foreign companies to engage in the agricultural sector in order to fully use the potential of land in North and South Laos, as well as to introduce large-scale farming and livestock production to meet domestic and export demand.
