International Conference on Footwear Industry in Vietnam

On June 30, 2020, the Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association organized the International Conference of Footwear and Footwear Industry in Ho Chi Minh City which attracts more than 100 enterprises from domestic and foreign corporations and experts in the footwear industry. The conference aims to inform enterprises about domestic and export markets how to participate in global leather and footwear supply chains and guide procedures to enjoy incentives from the European market under the Trade Agreement. Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuan, Chairman of the Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association, said that the Covid-19 epidemic had severely affected the Vietnamese leather, footwear and handbag industry. In the first 6 months of the year, orders decreased by about 50%, so many businesses could only maintain 30-70% capacity. Enterprises have tried to maintain production and wait for the peak consumption of footwear at the end of 2020 and early 2021.


In 2019, Vietnam's footwear exports reached nearly 18 billion USD and is one of the 5 industries with the largest export turnover in the country. It is expected that by 2020, the country's footwear export turnover will reach 20 billion USD but due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is likely to reach only 13.4 billion USD.

The conference brought together many experts in the footwear industry and senior executives to discuss and analyze in-depth the impact of the international trade environment on the development of Vietnam's leather and footwear industry of the association. Free trade policy for the Vietnamese footwear industry, the changing supply chain in Industry 4.0 and discussion on hot shoe topics such as sustainability and product innovation. In addition, the conference provided a background of knowledge and information about the Vietnamese footwear market through important speeches and discussions to help participants better understand the state of the industry. The conference attracted many footwear and handbag enterprises across the country to participate. Experts in the footwear industry have given a number of forecasts about the domestic and world market in the coming time so that businesses can have an overview and build production and business plans to be suitable for each market.
