Indonesia and Laos Sign MoU on Defense Cooperation

Jakarta. Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and his Laotian counterpart Gen. Chansamone Chanyalath signed a memorandum of understanding on a new defense cooperation in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The cooperation will become a legal umbrella for the two countries to increase cooperation in the defense sector, especially in exchanges of information related to national, regional and international security.
As part of this exchange, Indonesia has been providing training for soldiers of the Lao People's Armed Forces. Currently, a Lao military official is studying Indonesian language in Jakarta.
Chanyalath met Prabowo accompanied by the Laotian ambassador to Indonesia Thepthavone Sengmany and the secretary-general of the Laotian Defense Ministry, Maj. Gen. Khamsy Vhongkhamsao.
The Laotian entourage also checked out SS1 and G2 log rifles made by state defense manufacturer Pindad.
The delegation is also scheduled to visit the Defense University in Sentul, West Java, and the National Monument (Monas) in Jakarta.
