Conference on Vietnam-Laos cooperation in developing the industry & trade, energy and mines 2019.
A delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), led by Minister Tran Tuan Anh, attend the conference on Vietnam-Laos cooperation in developing the industry & trade, energy and mines in Vientiane, Laos, from August 16 to 18, 2019.
The conference was an annual event of Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the two Ministries of Laos. It was an occasion for the sides involved to strengthen Vietnam-Laos cooperation.
Within the framework of the event, on August 17, Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh, held talks with his Laos’ Minister of Industry and Trade - Khemmani Pholsena and Laos’ Minister of Energy and Mines - Khammany Inthirath to exchange views on pressing issues in the trade and industry and energy areas.
Meeting with the Laos’ Minister of Industry and Trade, Minister Tran Tuan Anh highlighted positive impacts of the Vietnam – Laos trade and border trade agreements which have contributed to the average annual trade growth of 10 percent and the completion of goals set at the 41st meeting of the Vietnam – Laos intergovernmental committee.
He said the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade held a conference to review three-year implementation of the border trade agreement and pointed out a number obstacles raised by enterprises such as time-consuming origin checks and customs clearance at border gates and quarantine causing difficulties for companies.
During his talks with Laos’ Minister of Energy and Mines, Minister Tran Tuan Anh extended his congratulations on Laos’ achievements attained in socio-economic developments and power development. The two sides highly appreciated the outstanding cooperation results over recent times, including the signing of an agreement on cooperation in developing power and mines facilities between the Vietnamese and Lao governments after more than two years of negotiations (February 2019).
For the time ahead, the two sides have agreed to amend the Vietnam – Laos trade and border trade agreements; design a plan for the implementation of a revised agreement on cooperation in developing power energy and mines between the two Governments; building and negotiating a memorandum of understanding on border trade infrastructure development along the Vietnam-Laos border.
