Ceremony marks 55 years of Viet Nam-Laos diplomatic ties
A ceremony was held in Ha Noi on July 18 to celebrate 55 years of Viet Nam-Laos diplomatic ties (September 5, 1962-2017) and 40 years since the signing of the Viet Nam-Laos Treaty on Amity and Cooperation (July 18, 1977-2017).
The event was attended by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Tran Dai Quang, Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, and Secretary of the Ha Noi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai.
The Laos side was represented by Phankham Viphavanh, Politburo member, standing member of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee’s Secretariat and Vice President of Laos.
On behalf of the Vietnamese Party, State and people, Party General Secretary Trong extended his warmest sentiments and congratulations to the Laos Party, State and people, affirming that each victory in Viet Nam’s past struggle for national liberation and reunification as well as the achievements attained in its current cause of reforms and national construction and protection, have been closely associated with the solidarity, support and valuable assistance from the Laos Party, State and people.
The Party leader noted that in the current context of regionally and globally complicated developments, with both opportunities and challenges for the two countries, directive thoughts and cooperation contents mentioned in the bilateral Treaty on Amity and Cooperation, still maintain their values and will forever be a red thread throughout the development process of the relationship between the two Parties, States and peoples.
In order to strengthen comprehensive cooperation and lift the special relations between Viet Nam and Laos to a new level, both sides need to continue supplementing and finalizing mechanisms and policies, whilst effectively implementing the reached agreements and the envisaged strategic goals, with a broader, more comprehensive and longer-term vision, Trong said.
