During the 10th Vietnam-Laos Foreign Ministers’ Consultation held on November 22 in Hanoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son commended Laos for its proactive preparations for its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024 and emphasized Vietnam’s readiness to cooperate and support Laos in successfully fulfilling this significant role.

In recent years, the Trade Promotion Agency of Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade has played a pivotal role in fostering and advancing digital trade between Vietnam and Laos. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations on September 5, 1962, the two countries have achieved numerous milestones across various fields. From 2016 to 2021, trade turnover between Vietnam and Laos has seen stable growth, consistently exceeding the $1 billion mark annually. In 2022, trade turnover reached $1.632,2 million, marking an 18.9% increase compared to 2021.

In a significant move to strengthen bilateral ties and technological infrastructure, Vietnam has made substantial investments in Laos, totaling nearly $5.5 billion across 241 projects over the past six decades. A key aspect of this investment includes the expansion of 4G coverage and the provision of high-speed internet services to the Laotian populace.
