8th April 2024 post by MOIT Vietnam

This conference is a meaningful activity that underscores the long-term, stable, and developing cooperative relationship between the three Front organizations of Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam.

Attending the conference were Mrs. Samdech Mem Sam An, President of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland; Mr. Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune, President of the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction; and Mr. Do Van Chien, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; as well as the Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos, Mr. Nguyen Ba Hung, and numerous officials and staff from the three Front organizations of the three countries. In his speech at the conference, Chairman Do Van Chien suggested that the three sides should pay closer attention to, promote, and engage more deeply in the cooperation program in the upcoming phase. Mr. Do Van Chien proposed that in the future, the Fronts of Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam should proactively exchange information, coordinate to promptly address difficulties, obstacles, and newly arising issues in the general relations of the three countries as well as among the three Fronts, in a spirit of brotherhood.

Furthermore, he recommended continuing to enhance delegation exchanges at all levels and alternating the organization of conferences on building peaceful, friendly borders and cooperative development among the three countries. He also emphasized the importance of intensifying propaganda work to all sectors of the three countries' populations, especially the younger generation, about the historical tradition of solidarity and long-standing bonds between the peoples of the three countries. He stressed raising public awareness about border and territorial work, as well as the significance and importance of legal documents on borders. Mr. Do Van Chien encouraged and facilitated the Fronts at all levels, particularly in districts and provinces with common borders, to strengthen exchanges, extend mutual support, and enhance people-to-people exchanges to help consolidate friendship, solidarity, and cooperation in all areas.

At the meeting held on April 9 in Vientiane, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, Do Van Chien, urged all three parties to deepen their involvement and commitment to the upcoming phase of their cooperation program.

In his address, President Do Van Chien suggested that the front organizations from Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam should proactively exchange information and coordinate to address any challenges or new issues arising in their trilateral relations, as well as specifically within their front organizations, in a spirit of camaraderie. He also recommended that the three countries continue to enhance their exchanges at various levels, organize rotational meetings to discuss border peace, friendship, and cooperative development, and further strengthen public outreach to raise awareness among their populations - especially the youth about the deep-rooted solidarity and historical ties among their peoples. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of educating the public on border territorial issues and the significance of legal documents pertaining to borders.

President Do Van Chien encouraged and facilitated the cooperation between border provinces and districts of the three countries to promote exchanges and mutual support. This includes enhancing cross-border cooperation, developing infrastructure, and fostering people-to-people connections to strengthen friendship, unity, and cooperation across all fields. He also called for improved conditions for Vietnamese citizens living, working, and studying in Cambodia and Laos, and affirmed that Vietnam would reciprocate by facilitating the presence of Lao and Cambodian citizens in Vietnam.

At the end of the conference, the leaders of the front organizations from Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam signed a cooperation program between the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, the Cambodian National Council for the Development of the Homeland, and the Lao Front for National Construction for the period 2024-2027.

The three parties agreed to continue promoting information dissemination, public education, and fostering a deep understanding and pride among the people - especially the youth and students about the enduring historical solidarity among Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. They committed to encouraging cooperation among the front organizations at various levels through activities such as enhancing exchanges and mutual support between border provinces and districts, and developing effective infrastructure connectivity. They also aimed to facilitate the participation of entrepreneurs and businesses from all three countries in socio-economic development, support agricultural commercialization in border regions, organize trade fairs, and exchange high-quality products to improve living standards, combat superstitions, and prevent illegal religious propaganda.

Furthermore, they encouraged the establishment of friendship associations and various forms of cooperation among the front organizations in border provinces, cities, and districts to reinforce friendship, solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation. A specific plan was proposed to coordinate with various levels and sectors to enhance language teaching and learning among the three countries, thereby strengthening mutual understanding and contributing to the development of trilateral friendship and solidarity. Later that day, the delegation from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, led by President Do Van Chien, was warmly received by Thongloun Sisoulith, the General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of Laos.

At the meeting, Mr. Do Van Chien briefed the General Secretary and President of Laos on the results of the collaboration between the Vietnamese and Lao Fronts over recent years, as well as the successful conclusion of the 5th Meeting of the Chairpersons of the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Fronts. Mr. Do Van Chien reported that at the end of the meeting, the three parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the 2024-2027 cooperation program. He emphasized that moving forward, the three Front organizations will focus on effectively implementing the contents of the signed MoU, with a particular emphasis on enhancing specialized cooperation and exchanging work experiences. They will also actively promote and educate the public, especially the younger generation, about the great friendship and special solidarity among Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith welcomed and praised the outcomes of the work between the three Front organizations, affirming that this would further deepen the special solidarity among Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. He underscored that in the coming time, the Laos-Vietnam Front organizations, as well as the three Fronts of Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, need to continue their close cooperation. This includes enhancing information and experience exchanges and providing mutual support to strengthen relations between the three Front organizations and the countries as a whole.
