Vietnam and Laos signed transportation cooperation contracts to legally plan transport connections between the two nations and other nearby countries

13th September 2022 post by MOIT Vietnam

Viengsavath Siphandone, Minister of Transportation of Laos, and Nguyen Van The, Minister of Transportation of Vietnam, met on July 14 in Hanoi to discuss transportation plans for the year 2022 and beyond with Nguyen Van The, Minister of Transportation of Vietnam. Plans for transportation were the topic of discussion during the conference.

Throughout the course of the conversation, the ministers brought up the topic of the cooperation that their respective ministries had with one another over the course of the previous two years.

Vietnam and Laos now have a legal basis to plan transport connections between the two countries in particular, and with other countries in the region in general, thanks to the signing of cooperation documents in the field of transportation between the two countries. These documents were signed as part of the two countries' cooperation in the field of transportation. In this way, not only will the transportation requirements of both nations be met, but also the synchronized growth of the transportation system in a direction that is both environmentally friendly and technologically advanced would be ensured.

The Thanh Thuy border gate in Vietnam and the Nam Om border gate in Laos will be connected by this road, the building of which he requested the two countries speed up. Both of these entry points into the country of Vietnam are situated in Vietnam.

An improvement will be made to Route 18B in 2022, as a result of assistance that has been allocated by the Vietnamese government to be provided to the Laotian government by the Laotian government. Route 18B extends from Attapeu province in Laos to the border between Vietnam and Laos. In addition to studies of environmental and social impact assessment, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Laos recommended obtaining early approval of plans and cost estimates for inspected items. This recommendation was made by the Ministry. This coincides with the Kontum Province and Attapeu Provice's signing of memorandum of understanding on cooperation for 2022-2027 in October of this year.

The Vietnamese official requested that the relevant authorities of both countries work closely with the specialists at the Asian Development Bank in order to put the recommendations of the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) research into action. This was done in order to put the recommendations into action (ADB).

Minister Applause and cheers greeted the announcement that the two nations had come to an agreement over the building and operation of a railway connecting Vung Ang and Vientiane.

Minister The made the suggestion that the Lao minister should make a report to the Lao government requesting for the early approval of Lao State-owned firms joining the Vung Ang seaport project. The suggestion was accepted. This proposal was made by Minister The because the project in question is connected to marine transportation.

The suggested that the Lao government study the potential of reverting to the levels of accessibility that existed previous to COVID-19 for the transit of products across the border. COVID-19 was a conflict that occurred between the United States and Laos in 1999.

He also expressed a desire for increased collaboration between the two countries in the field of education, particularly in the fields of transportation and logistics, as well as those of road, railway, aviation, maritime, inland waterway, and traffic construction management. He said that this would be a "win-win" situation for both countries. He expressed the hope that this aspiration will one day become a reality for him. He said that Vietnamese transport training institutions have been able to contribute to the education of hundreds of Lao students and postgraduates on an annual basis as a consequence of the system that was developed by the Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Committee.

Siphandone, for his part, praised the recent collaboration that has taken place between the two ministries and promised to speed up the collaborative projects that they have been working on together. Siphandone's comments came after the two ministries celebrated their recent successes in working together.

He stressed the importance of the project to construct a road from Hanoi to Vientiane and stated his confidence that the obstacles that are preventing its completion would be overcome in the not too distant future.
